私と娘は、2024年9月8日～14日まで、ノースカロライナ州のミスターメープルを訪問しました。
2016年テレビ東京「世界ニッポン行きたい人応援団」で共演して以来、彼らの所への訪問を望んでいたが、やっと実現しました。

My daughter and I visited Mr. Maple in North Carolina from September 8th to 14th, 2024. I had wanted to visit them ever since we appeared together on TV Tokyo’s “Sekai Nippon Ikitai Hito Oen-dan” in 2016, and it finally happened.

ミスターメープルは、100種以上の日本モミジを生産しているが、常に新しい品種の開発に努力しています。
彼らは、アメリカで人気があるミカワ.ヤツブサの種をまいて、1万本の中から赤芽がでるものを選抜しました。
兄マットさんの娘が好きなレッドパンダと名付けて、品種登録しました。
Mr.Maple produces over 100 varieties of Japanese maples,and is always working on developing new varieties,
‘Mikawa Yatsubusa’ is a variety of the ‘Acer palmatum’
Mr.Maple sowed the seeds of the ‘Yatsubusa’
and selected the ones that sprouted red buds from among 10.000 seedings.
They named it ‘Red Panda’,which is the favorite of Mr.Matt’s daughter ,and registered the variety.
ミスターメープルはとても研究熱心で、私が初めて見る古い文献で勉強したり、国際モミジ協会や樹木研究所と交流しています。
Mr.Maple is a very enthusiastic resercher ,studying old books of japanese maples,interacting with the Maple Society and the Bartlett Tree Experts.

This time we are visiting to learn about Mr.Maple`s high-quality production and promotion of their many varieties of Japanese maple .

昨夜はタイ料理で食事後、ミスターメープル兄弟の弟ティムさんが、Asheville市内を案内してくれました。
ミスターメープル兄弟が学んだ高校を初め、市内各所にノムラモミジなどのJapanese mapleの品種が植栽されています。
品種を揃えたこれだけの質量は日本ではまず見られません。
高校には、Japanese mapleの育成に詳しい先生もいたとか。
この地域でのJapanese maple生産は50年以上の歴史があり、それがミスターメープル兄弟に結実しているようです。
After dining at Thai food last night, Tim, the younger brother of the Mr. Maple brothers, showed us around the city of Asheville. Japanese maple varieties such as Nomura maple are planted throughout the city, including at the high school where the Mr. Maple brothers studied. Such a large number of varieties is rarely seen in Japan. Apparently there was a teacher at the high school who was knowledgeable about Japanese maple cultivation. Japanese maple production in this area has a history of over 50 years, and it seems that this history has borne fruit in the Mr. Maple brothers.
