モミジは乾燥に弱いので、仲田種苗園は1960年代からアカマツなど明るい木陰の下で、モミジを育成してきました。
昨日私たちが訪れたアメリカ最大級の樹木研究所Bartlettでは2年前からアカマツの林床で、日本モミジの新しいコレクションを整備しています。
Many Japanese Maples grow naturally along mountain streams or lakesides.
This means they do not dry places that are expoted to sunljght all day long,and do best with moderate air humidity.
Nakada Seed Nursery has been cultivating maples in the shade of red pines and other trees
since 1960s.
At the Bartlett Tree Experts ,which we visited yesterday,they have been cultivating a new collection of Japanese maples under red pines
for 2 years.

ミスターメープル兄弟に連れて行ってもらったプライベートガーデンは、斜面を利用して周囲の景観と一体となり、さらに借景を取り入れるなど、日本庭園の真髄を実現しています。
聞けば中根金作が現地で作庭を指導し、またオーナーも京都の庭などを研究したそうです。
